I Cut Your Flesh

So another movie review this time. This time we’re talking about SamHel’s “I Cut Your Flesh” from A Baroque House. It’s a documentary looking into the life of a LA based member of the BDSM community, MissSox, and her experience with and continuing of bloodplay. Filled with segments of interviews with Sox and also segments of her actual bloodplay sessions, there’s a very blatant two sides to the feel of the doc. One half you have fairly informative segments that’s really interesting at giving a lay of the land so to speak of the bloodplay scene and how it all is, with focus at calming down generalized fears that may come with something like bloodplay. The other half, for a lack of better words can feel pretty “porny.” Often you get longer drawn out segments of missox’s sessions of bloodplay which consist of, expectedly, a lot of nudity, moans, screams, and of course blood. In its own right this isn’t necessarily bad, but for some viewers the sequences may feel a little drawn out or downright boring if either the sight of it all isn’t “shocking” or by the end you’ve grown numb to it. The Highlight of the doc, at least what it sorta builds up to, is a moment where the crew goes out to do a hook suspension from a tree. MissSox Is hooked up on her back and knees and lifted into the air and swung back and forth. It’s one of the few scenes that gets me nervous and is honestly one of the most beautiful displays throughout the 1 hour 17 minute runtime. Overall I think the selling point/gimmick of real “gore” along with the fascinating insights on bloodplay and BDSM given by MissSox makes this an honest recommendation despite the at times drawn out scenes that feel the need to titillate sexually more than just to show off the bloodplay, but then again that’s to be somewhat expected as the doc’s cover boasts a cute little “XXX” logo in the corner and given A Baroque House’s other works that might fall into the “Gore Pornography” sub genre of extreme horror, it may not be all that surprising the way the documentary is edited.

While the limited run DVDs and BluRays are long out of print, you can still view the movie at A Baroque House via their Video on Demand selection.
